Canadian BRP Inc.

BRP started off as L'Auto-Neige Bombardier Limitée in 1942 when it was founded by Joseph-Armand Bombardier. Starting the company in the Eastern Townships of Quebec in Valcourt, Joseph-Armand had a vision to grow a great company. As with all companies, the Bombardier Snowmobile Limited manufacturer faced challenges.

Sixty years later, the family decided to restructure its ownership. In 2003, BRP Inc. in Canada became the holding company in this country after its sale to three investors. These investors were the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, Bain Capital, and the Bombardier-Beaudoin family.

BRP Inc. Fun Craft

Bombardier Recreational operates in Canada and manufactures a broad range of fun vehicles. These products include everything from side by sides to motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, off-road vehicles, personal watercraft, and snowmobiles.

Brand names in the Canadian BRP stable are the Lynx and Ski-Doo snowmobiles, Can-Am all-terrain vehicles, Sea-Doo personal watercraft, Can-Am motorcycles, and Rotax engines.

Snowmobiles

Joseph-Armand Bombardier had a vision of building small one- or side-by-side vehicles. He worked with his son Germain to achieve this goal, experimenting with snowplane designs and propeller-driven aerosleds. By 1959, they started selling their first lightweight snowmobile. Since then, BRP has developed its Ski-Doo and Lynx snowmobile brands. However, Joseph-Armand continued to follow his dream of adding tracked vehicles to his product line.

Tracked Off-Road and All-Terrain Vehicles

Bombardier Recreational Products developed its first off-road motorcycles in the 1970s. The Rotax engines were robust and ideally suited for rough terrain motorsports like motocross and enduro. This first brand of motorcycles became known as Can-Am, which Armand outsourced to Armstrong-CCM Motorcycles in Lancashire, England. Unfortunately, the Can-Am brand died out in 1983.

Three-Wheel Roadster

BRP introduced its three-wheel can-am Spyder to the market in 2007. The Spyder Roadster is the first vehicle made by the company that can be used on the road.

Sea-Doo Watercraft

Besides other recreational vehicles, BRP manufactures the Canadian Sea-Doo. These small personal watercrafts (PWC) are propelled by impeller-driven waterjets.
