How to Store Your Sea-Doo and Other Watercraft for Winter

Fall invites crisp air and cozy fires to Canada and with it new and exciting outdoor experiences, such as hiking the Rockies, apple picking and Thanksgiving in early October. For Sea-Doo and other personal watercraft owners, it's also a time to prepare for off-season storage. While this can be a daunting task, it doesn't have to be a complicated one. This guide will walk you through the important steps to ensure your ride is sea-worthy for next season.

Cleaning the Exterior

Regardless of whether you've been in salt water or fresh water, it would help if your took the time to wash the hull of your pwc. Use a garden hose and mild soap to gently scrub away any dirt and grime.

Flushing the Engine

Flushing the engine helps prevent corrosion, especially if you've been in salt water. Attach a hose to the flushing port and run fresh water through the system for a few minutes. After flushing make sure there's no excess water inside the engine that can freeze in the middle of winter. You may also want to add some fuel stabilizer to your fuel tank and let the engine run for a few minutes. This will help any existing fuel from going stale in your fuel system and getting thick. If you need help, you can schedule an appointment with the service department for maintenace.

Storing Your Battery

Cold weather can cause problems for lead-acid maritime batteries, so it's important to disconnect your battery and store it in a cool, dry place to prevent corrosion or cracking during the winter months. This step can keep you from having to purchase a new battery in the spring.

Choosing a Cover

Protect your Sea-Doo watercraft from critters and dust in winter storage with a high-quality cover. It doesn't matter if you're choosing climate-controlled storage or storing outside, a quality cover adds an extra layer of protection to the hull.
